Solton Manor is a Grade II-listed estate, with roots stretching back to the Domesday Book of 1086. Just to the side of the main house lies one of its most enchanting historic treasures: the Dovecote Cottage.
Originally built to house pigeons and doves, dovecotes were once a symbol of wealth and self-sufficiency on Tudor estates. These birds provided food, eggs, and fertiliser. Their feathers were fashioned into quills and their droppings were used in the tanning of leather.
